Growing Medicinal Plants Commercially - A Sustainable Crop for Farmers

A two hour workshop by grower & Medical Herbalist Ross Hennessy on the opportunities that Irish farmers have in the cultivation of medicinal crops. The workshop will be carried out on the farm where Ross and Marina grow over 160 different species of plants for their own clinic. Ross will talk about the commercial crops that are being presently grown and the processing methods that are on site. Ireland is the only country in the EU that has no herbal processing or cultivation of medicinal plants. Here in Sligo we are at the forefront of this emerging industry.

During the talk Ross will explain

  • how farmers can get involved,
  • how GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) are applied to herbal medicine
  • what we can offer on the farm in terms of processing
  • growing different plants for various soil types
  • root crops and their long term value in sustainable medicine production
